Five days after the BJP won the Gujarat Assembly Elections 2017, for the 6th time, Vijay Rupani was elected as the new chief minister of the state.

On December 23, a delegation met Gujarat governor Om Prakash Kohli with a letter staking claim to form the government in the state.

Union Ministers Ravi Shankar Prasad, Nitin Gadkari, Rajnath Singh, Ram Vilas Paswan, Harsh Vardhan and Ananth Kumar were seen gracing the swearing-in ceremony.

BJP ally Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar also attended along with his deputy Sushil Kumar Modi.

Along with him 9 Cabinet ministers and 10 Minister of State also took the oath.

Besides Patel, the other Cabinet-rank ministers sworn-in were - Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, RC Faldu, Kaushik Patel, Saurabh Patel, Ganpatsinh Vasava, Jayesh Radadiya, Dilip Thakor and Ishwar Parmar.

Another new face as cabinet minister was Ishwarbhai Parmar, who was a Minster of State in the Rupani government.

The Gujarat poll results had shown that while the BJP had faced a rout in Patidar dominated constituencies, it had managed to win several seats by consolidating voters from non-Patidar castes, shedding its traditional votebank in search of a new combine.

"People from all walks of life joined the oath taking ceremony in Gandhinagar to bless the team that took oath today".

Modi, who was Gujarat's Chief Minister between 2001 and 2014, went nostalgic and shared pictures of the ceremonies when he took oath in the past.

The new government led by Rupani took the oath of office and secrecy at a grand ceremony in Gandhinagar.

Party leaders believe Rupani may induct a junior minister from south Gujarat's tribal belt, where the BJP matched its strong 2012 performance.
