All iPhones, iPads and Mac devices affected by 'Meltdown' and 'Spectre' bugs

"All Mac systems and iOS devices are affected, but there are no known exploits impacting customers at this time", the firm said in the statement.

Nearly all the devices with chips produced in the two recent decades are believed to be affected by Meltdown and Spectre. However, Apple has advised its customers to download softwares only from trusted sources- Mac App Stores to help prevent any possible processor vulnerabilities.

The company said in an online support document that it has recently added security protections to MacOS and iOS created to prevent one series of attacks, known as Meltdown, and is working to update Safari to prevent against another type of attack, dubbed Spectre.

Despite concern that fixes may slow down devices, Apple said its steps to address the Meltdown issue haven't dented performance.

While Apple has taken (and taking) measures against protecting users against Meltdown and Spectre, so have others. Then Google's Project Zero team, which tracks down zero-day vulnerabilities on computer systems, reported that the flaw impacts almost all modern processors.

Just hours after a computer chip flaw exposed majority of smartphones, computers, cloud storage, tablets and laptops to malicious activities, Apple today admitted that all of its iPhones, iPads and computers have been affected by the processor flaw, which could leave it vulnerable to hackers. However, Apple says that it has already released mitigations in iOS 11.2 that protect iPhone units, iPod touches and iPad tablets from Meltdown.

Further mitigations will be released in the coming days in Apple's Safari to help defend against Spectre.

Google too has issues a statement informing users that its Android phones were protected it users had the latest security updates.

The microchip flaw affects device running the company's iOS and macOS operating systems, as well as the Apple TV.

"Both the "Spectre" and "Meltdown" flaws affect the performance of CPU feature called Speculative Execution" which is responsible for improving speed and operate multiple operations. Microsoft recently released a patch for Windows 10, and other versions should be updated by next week - January 9.

Apple's Spectre fix is still to come, though those vulnerabilities are harder to exploit, according to researchers.
