Jon Gruden's contract heavily backloaded to take advantage of Nevada tax law

Jon Gruden's contract heavily backloaded to take advantage of Nevada tax law

Which is what led to ESPN play-by-play man Sean McDonough's attempt at bidding Gruden, an analyst with the network, a classy farewell before their call of the Tennessee Titans-Kansas City Chiefs wild-card game Saturday afternoon.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Gruden's contract is for 10 years _ the longest coaching contract in history _ and worth around $100 million.

"Oh, thank you", Gruden said.

It had been a poorly kept secret in recent days Gruden was going to coach the Raiders, but McDonough really let the cat out of the bag.

Gruden, 54, has expressed an interest in returning to the sidelines despite a great job on ESPN's Monday Night Football.

A person with knowledge of the team's plans said the Raiders are planning a news conference Tuesday to announce that Gruden is leaving the broadcast booth to come back to coaching.

The Oakland Raiders never really recovered from the decision to trade Jon Gruden to Tampa Bay 16 years ago.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Gruden's coordinators are already in place. He bounced around for a few more years before being hired Raiders owner Al Davis as the Head Coach in 1998.

Gruden has reportedly agreed to a 10-year, $100 million contract, the largest for a coach in National Football League history. The Raiders are set to bring Jon Gruden back for a second stint as coach.

"I'm actually thrilled (about it) because Bob Myers and I had a conversation this morning and I said, "You know, Bob, Gruden's got one title and I've got two, ' Kerr said, a reference to the Warriors" two National Basketball Association championships compared to Gruden's one Super Bowl win with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers". Overall, Gruden is 95-81 in 11 seasons.
