Julian Assange's Options To Get Out Of Ecuadorian Embassy Are Rapidly Narrowing

Espinosa informed that Assange, an Australian, became an Ecuadoran citizen on December 12.

Responding to the UK's refusal to grant him diplomatic status, Ecuador's foreign minister Maria Fernanda Espinosa said: "No solution will be achieved without global co-operation and the co-operation of the United Kingdom, which has also shown interest in seeking a way out".

Espinosa confirmed that Ecuador had granted Assange citizenship a day after he tweeted a photo of himself wearing the yellow jersey of the country's soccer team following more than five and a half years at the London embassy. The Wikileaks founder has been claiming political asylum at the Ecuadorean embassy in London since 2012.

She said Ecuador had asked London to recognize Assange as a diplomat - which would give him safe passage out of the embassy without fear of arrest - but Britain had refused.

According to media reports from Ecuador earlier this week, Assange has been registered to the province of Pichincha, which covers the capital Quito.

Quito is believed to want Assange to travel to Ecuador.

Espinosa had said on Tuesday her government was looking at the possibility of a "third country or a personality" stepping in to resolve the stand-off.

'The UK did not grant that request, nor are we in talks with Ecuador on this matter.

Records showed that the documents had been delivered to Mr Assange on December 21, the newspaper said.

Prosecutors there dropped the allegations in May 2017. Assange fears Sweden will hand him over to United States authorities who could prosecute him for publishing the documents and possibly sentence him to death.

The government of Ecuador recently requested diplomatic status for Assange here in the UK. Mr Assange is unlawfully and arbitrarily detained by the United Kingdom authorities and must be released. The Ecuadorean government has since insisted that "nothing has happened".

Assange, who denies the allegations, feared Sweden would hand him over to the United States to face prosecution over WikiLeaks' publication of thousands of classified military and diplomatic documents in one of the largest information leaks in U.S. history. A whole coterie of left liberals and pseudo-left organizations have provided political cover for the state vendetta against Assange, seeking to legitimize the phony sexual misconduct charges against him, while tying him to the claims of Russian "meddling" in the 2016 U.S. election. Ecuador has repeatedly urged Assange not to interfere in the affairs of other countries following his frequent online comments on worldwide issues.

This sparks speculation that Assange is about to end his self-imposed exile.
